Weprowatz Museum
The Weprowatz Museum was inaugurated with a divine service in the St. Joseph's Church in Zirndorf on 21 May 1994. The delivery of the museum in the City Hall of Zirndorf, in which the museum is situated, was done by the Mayor of Zirndorf, Gert Kohl.
The celebration with guests from the Batsch, the fellowmen of the Donau Swabians Zirndorf-Oberasbach and the Weprowatz people took place in the Meeting Room of the City Hall. The musical program was contributed by the Town Youth Band Zirndorf with opuses of Haydn, Bizet and Graham Lyon. After the President saluted the guests, the Mayor of Zirndorf, Gert Kohl, delivered his speech.
Mayor Kohl mentioned the difficulties of the cultural circle, which exists separated from its roots. The further existence, keeping contact with the own history and taking a decisive influence on the memory of our roots is difficult to understand. Very easily the opinion appears that something not existing anymore is clinched. The Mayor attested the successful creation of the museum to the Weprowatz people as follows: „With the creation of a Donau Swabian Weprowatz Museum you created the possibility of remembering the own folk, which was once at the mercy of history, as well as the traditions of your hometown. The city of Zirndorf fortunately had the possibility of giving you a room for this." Mr. Kohl wishes, in the name of the Zirndorf population, that the museum contributes to the understanding of the traditions of the Weprowatz people and the Donau Swabians.
After many years of acclimatization, integration and existence creation of our fellowmen in the new home, the Donau Swabians had to notice that the veteran generation became smaller year by year and that the memory of the Old Home vanished continuously! The Weprowatz Association decided to plan a lasting remembrance in order to keep the existing and to hand it over to the succeeding generation. 1991 - 1992, discussions about a room for the Home Club were had in Zirndorf.
A few months later, the Weprowatz Association got room No 13 in the ground floor of the City Hall. 1992 the treaty was set up and we could start preparing and equipping the room with show-cases to put in the exposition articles. Unfortunately, the room is yet too small today! The Weprowatz Association wants to say thank you to the city of Zirndorf for the room and to the Weprowatz people for their help and their exposition articles. With this Museum the memories of our Weprowatz and the lives and works of the people in Weprowatz are to be kept alive.
